Amazing honor for Shrewsbury student
SHREWSBURY, MA – Hailey Parsons, an 8th grader at the Advanced Math and Science Academy, was honored with the John F. Kennedy ”Make a Difference” Award. This award is given to 100 Massachusetts middle school students for outstanding community service contributions they have made to their schools, communities, and the world. The ceremony took place at the prestigious JFK Library and Museum in Boston. Each student was presented with a certificate by State Treasurer Steve Grossman.
Hailey has been a part of AMSA’s Leaders of Tomorrow chapter since its inception last year. What began as a small core group of 10 AMSA students has grown to 50 strong! A few of Hailey’s accomplishments with this group have been: Raising $4000 for Haiti relief, creating and sending military care packages, Special Olympics projects, fundraising and collections for numerous charities, monthly Habitat for Humanity service, and monthly cooking and serving meals to 60 people at a soup kitchen.
Her ideas are endless, as are the the visions shared by the many Leaders of Tomorrow groups today. It is exciting to watch these young students grow into mature, confident leaders. Congratulations Hailey, and all recipients on a job well done!
