Shrewsbury, MA, March 1, 2011 —- Shrewsbury Schools Department of Music and Theatre announces Louisa Ramirez-Flynn has been selected to participate in the 2011 MENC-National Association of Music Education, Eastern Division Music Festival-Chorus, which will be held in Baltimore, MD on March 31-April 3.

Ms. Ramirez-Flynn was nominated and chosen for the biennial honor based on her 2010 All-State audition scores.   She will be rehearsing under the baton of a nationally recognized conductor and with the best high school musicians from the Northeast section of the United States.  Ramirez-Flynn is one of only 59 students from Massachusetts to receive this honor in 2011.  The MENC, Eastern Division, is comprised of Connecticut, the District of Columbia, Delaware, Massachusetts, Maryland, Maine, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, Pennsylvania, Vermont and portions of Europe.

Ramirez-Flynn became involved in music in the 3rd grade.  Her passion for music has afforded her the opportunity to participate in such organizations as The Boston Children’s Chorus, the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) Chorus and the Handel & Haydn Society.  With these groups, she has travelled to numerous cities and performed at many venues, including Carnegie Hall.

Ramirez-Flynn, an SHS senior who moved to Shrewsbury in 2009, admits, “The C Wing at SHS is my home away from home”.  She adds, “SHS Music and Theatre is a supportive environment and my directors have been wonderful mentors”.  Michael Lapomardo, SHS Choral Director comments, “Louisa is very involved in the choral program and theatre productions at the High School.  This is a wonderful accomplishment and she is to be commended for her hard work and dedication.”  Ramirez-Flynn is weighing her college options and hopes to pursue a degree in classical vocal performance.
