SHREWSBURY, Massachusetts – Cheryl Catalina of Shrewsbury recently participated in the Boston Marathon as an American Cancer Society DetermiNation athlete and helped to raise more than $2,000 to help fight cancer and bring hope to those facing the disease. DetermiNation is a powerful and inspiring movement, which enables athletes to dedicate their training and participation in marathons, half marathons, and other endurance events in honor or in memory of a loved one with cancer, while raising funds to support the Society’s mission to save lives and create a world with less cancer and more birthdays. Catalina was one of nineteen DetermiNation runners from across the United States who participated in the Boston Marathon, and together they raised more than $45,000 for the American Cancer Society.

Catalina had run the Boston Marathon twice before. After recently losing a longtime co-worker to cancer, Catalina decided to run the Boston Marathon one last time and dedicate her participation to her dear friend and all her loved ones who have been touched by cancer. “I decided I would run Boston one last time in Deanna’s memory, as well as to honor family members and others that have been affected by the disease. I thought the DetermiNation program would be a great way to raise money for such an important cause to so many,” tells Catalina.

There are several DetermiNation events throughout New England. For more information, or to participate in DetermiNation, contact your American Cancer Society at 1-800-227-2345 or visit acsdetermination.org.
